  2. Simile A comparison of two unlike things that links them with the words like or as. Her lips were as red as a rose.

  3. Metaphor A metaphor states that one thing is something else. It is a comparison, but it does NOT use like or as to make the comparison. His words were a knife.

  4. Imagery Words that stimulate one or more senses to create a picture in the mind.

  5. Personification A figure of speech in which an object or animal is spoken of as if it had human qualities.
