    1. The Eykona wound measurement system: modernising wound measurement for the 21st Century Authors: Frank Bowling, Laurie King, Ronald Daniel, Hassan Fadavi, James Paterson, David Matthews, and Andrew Boulton

    2. Introduction A new wound measurement system Based on digital imaging & PC software Unrivalled simplicity and speed of use Provides calibrated-colour 3D model Interactive measurement including depth Ideal for remote diagnosis & telemedicine

    3. The 3D wound data

    4. From 2D photographs…

    5. …to a colour 3D model

    6. Linear Measurement Length measurements (mm)

    7. Volume Measurement Area (mm2) and volume (mm3) Boundary detection under development!

    8. Monitoring Healing A progression of healing across 7 days

    9. Methodology Two UK centres, 10 weeks 35 ulcers from 31 patients Majority imaged 2+ times, total 67 encounters Hand-measured Elliptical (EM) compared against Digital Elliptical (DEM) Side tests: Absolute accuracy of Digital Area (DAM) Repeatability of DEM

    10. Prototype Equipment Integrated hardware under development Prototype: SLR1, “Magic pyramid”2 (2 - attached near wound during imaging)

    11. Participant stats Mean wound size (EM): 294mm2 sd:452 Mean wound size (DEM): 258mm2 sd:357 Participant age range 45 – 93 Wound severity range (UT) 1A – 3D

    12. Statistical Analysis Excellent correlation between DEM and EM P<0.001 (N = 69) Absolute accuracy (area mm2 against known-size fabricated wound) error <5.4% (10 trials) Intra-observer variation (DEM) <3% (15 trials)

    13. Conclusion Positive feedback from clinicians Both groups “flying solo” from week 1 Excellent measurement correlation Further validation of accuracy to follow Early evidence of potential for remote diagnosis & telemedicine
