  1. Types of Magma and Magma Formation Sam Mellon Jacob Cauvel Codey Yurkewicz

  2. Types of Magma • Basaltic Magma • Andesitic Magma • Rhylic Magma

  3. Basaltic Magma • The higher the temperature the greater the depth.

  4. Rhyolitic Magma The temperature of rhyolitic magma is between 650 and 800oC.

  5. Andestic Magma

  6. Viscosity, Gas Content Basaltic magma has a low viscosity and a low gas content. Andesitic magma has a intermediate viscosity and a intermediate gas content. Rhyolitic magma has a high viscosity and a high gas content.

  7. Eruption type Rhyolitic magma: Very Explosive

  8. Basaltic magma: Flowing

  9. Andesitic magma: Flowing and moderately explosive

  10. Composition • Basaltic Magma • High in Iron, Magnesium, Calcium. It is low in Potassium, and Sodium • The Silica content is about 50%. • Rhyolitic Magma • High in Potassium, and Sodium. It is low in Iron, Magnesium, Calcium . • The silica content in about 70%. • Andesitic Magma • Intermediate in Magnesium, Calcium, Iron, Potassium, and Sodium. • The Silica content is about 60%.
