Forgiveness Makes Me Strong Ana Baldinger
Food for Thought • “Forgiveness has nothing to do with absolving a criminal of his crime. It has everything to do with relieving oneself of the burden of being a victim--letting go of the pain and transforming oneself from victim to survivor.” (C.R Strahan, 2012) • The VIA Manual describes forgiveness as representing; “A suite of pro social changes that occur within an individual who has been offended or damaged by a relationship partner.”
Forgiveness in my life • The joy of having sisters..
Yoga and Forgiveness • "We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same." ~Carlos Castaneda • Practicing yoga has encouraged me to be more present and work on not dwelling in the past. • Being forgiving of others and myself
Put yourself in their shoes.. • I believe that empathy is necessary for the ability to forgive • Having compassion for others • Being patient
Its important to forgive, BUT it’s also important not to forget. • Be aware of your reasons for choosing forgiveness. • By treating the transgressor with kindness and understanding, you can actually help them in the long run.
Think of someone who hurt you or someone you love. • 1. Who was it? Brother, sister, friend, parent, ect… • 2. Do you feel you’ve forgiven them? • 3. If you’ve let go of all resentment, how do you feel now? What was the process needed to forgive? • 4. If you are far from forgiving that person (or yourself), do you know why? How do you feel about the inability to reconcile at this point? What can you do today to move toward eventual resolution?
