Virgin Media Short Film Idea: Lovers Anonymous
Basic outline of moving image: • A group of people telling each other how helplessly in ‘addicted love’ they are with another person. • The audience will think they they’re talking about alcoholism, until the end when the camera zooms into an eye and their pupil is a heart, revealing that they were talking about love.
What I will do to try and make my moving image successful: • I will try and make into a comedy, with funny comments about love and the most ridiculous ways they’ve tried to win someone’s/something’s love over. • I will need to use After Affects for my Virgin Media Short, but I will make it classy so it doesn’t look overdone. • I will use little after affects to make it more realistic. • Some people will be normal, some crazy, and some in love with random objects (not just other people). I will need to use After Affects for my Virgin Media Short, but I will make it classy so it doesn’t look overdone.
More detailed plot: • Each person will take it in turn to describe their addiction without giving it away. Some of their addictions will be crazy, but will always keep the audience on their toes, hopefully making them wonder who/what they are talking about throughout the whole 2 minutes 20 second video. At the very end, after the ‘heart pupil’ is shown, then the camera will pan to show the ‘Lovers Anonymous’ sign on the door, or will show a title with a ‘Lovers Anonymous’ logo on it. This short film isn’t aimed at on in particular, but because it is quite abstract, I think it will appeal to several audiences.
MEETING THE BRIEF • I will make sure that the video is no longer than 2minutes and 20 seconds. • I will make sure I either use my own music, or gather the rights for the music that I want to use. • I will make sure that the film is a PG/U rating.
Technical aspects • Location: in a meeting type of room, similar to the ones in college. • Mis en scene: Only need a couple of seats, seated in a circle for the cast. • Camera angles: I will have wide shots, viewing the whole group sitting in the circle, close ups on each individual cast member when they are telling their story, and their responses to other peoples stories. Have an extreme, zooming, close up on the eye for my last scene. • Sound: The sound will be the voices which will need to be very clear (diegetic noise), and also I will find a quiet, but upbeat song to put in the background of the video (non-diegetic). • Lighting: I will use the natural light from the windows in the room, but manipulate it so that each of the characters are shown clearly, but if that is not enough, I will add some superficial lighting if the characters aren’t shown enough.
