dentistry Presented by Dr. Abdelhaleem H. Elkasapy
Two types of tooth 1- temporary or deciduous tooth 2- permanent teeth Incisor canine cheek (PM&M)
Tooth consists of • Crown : part of tooth projecting above the gum and covered by the enamel • Root : part embedded in the bony cavity of the jaw (alveolus) and covered by cement • Neck : covered by gum and present in between
The surface or the tooth directed toward • Lips labial surface • Cheek buccal surface • Tongue lingual surface • Neighbouring Tooth contact S • Tooth of opposite jaw masticcatory S
Teeth examination • Case history • Eating habits of the affected animals • Quidding of the food • Large amount of saliva in manger • Halitosis • Presence of large amount of in-digestable grains in the stool • X-ray • Oroscopy
I- developmental abnormalities A- abnormal number of teeth a- anodentia b- oligodentia c- polyodentia B-abnormal position of teeth 1-diastasis dentium 2-brachygnathism (parrot mouth), overbite 3- prognathism (pig mouth), under bite
II- irregular wear of the teeth 1- sharp teeth (sharp enemal points) 2- Step-formed mouth 3- smooth table mouth
III- disease of the teeth 1- fracture of the teeth 2-dental tartar 3- dental caries 4- pulpitis 5- alveolar periostitis 6- dental fistula
I- developmental abnormalities 1- anodentia: complete absence of the teeth 2- oligodentia: decrease number of teeth
3- polyodentia: (supernumerory teeth) Presence of an additional number of the teeth, mainly in the incisor set. The condition is mostly found in cases One or more of the deciduous teeth are not shed out after eruption and established of the permanent ones TTT: extract the extra teeth for cosmetic reasons and avoid its complications
B-Abnormal position of the teeth 1- diastasisdentium: presence of space between two neighbouring teeth Cause : failure in the position torsion of the teeth accompanying polyodentia Ttt: extraction of one of the neighbouring tooth to widen the space and prevent the food particles to be loddged
Brachygnathism ( parrot mouth) • Congental • Upper jaw is longer than the lower • TTt: frequent shortening of the lower incisors
3- prognathism (pig mouth) • Lower jaw is longer than the upper one • Ttt: the superior incisor should be shortened periodically
II- irregular wear of teeth 1- sharp enamel point: (sharp teeth): Sharpness and increase in the length of the buccal borders of the upper cheek teeth and lingual borders of the lower ones. Symptoms : Painful mastication Food accumalation Quidding of the food Indigestion
2- step-formed mouth • Condition of the cheek teeth become unequal in height • Occur due to absence of the opposite cheek teeth • Cut the elongated teeth to the level of the table surface
3- smooth table mouth • Teeth are smooth • Observed in old ages Ttt :-the affected animals are supplied with easily masticated food bran mash
III- disease of the teeth 1- fracture of the teeth:- Direct violence as kick or accident Ttt : - Crown : smoothing • Complete fracture reach to the level of the pulp cavity extract the tooth - Crown absent repulsion
Dental tartar (odento-lithiasis) • It is the deposition of grayish brown deposit on the tooth near the gum • It is firm and smooth layer of calcium phosphate and carbonate
