  1. The Royal College of Midwives

  2. The Royal College of Midwives RCM members have voted YES to take industrial action. The RCM’s industrial action will start on Monday 13th October with a four hour stoppage and action short of a strike will take place Tuesday 14th October - Friday 17th October. Additional dates will be announced in due course.

  3. The Royal College of Midwives On Monday 13th October 2014 we will start our industrial action with a four hour stoppage between 7:00am and 11:00am. Ensuring safety for women and babies is, and must be, our first priority.

  4. The Royal College of Midwives RCM Workplace Reps will work with your HOM to ensure that contingency plans are put in place so that essential services can continue throughout the stoppage. It is intended that this service is similar to the service provided on a bank holiday.

  5. The Royal College of Midwives Further action will start on Tuesday 14th October to highlight the level of goodwill you give to the NHS everyday. We will start this further action by asking RCM members to only work overtime that you are paid for. We are also asking RCM members to take any break you are entitled to.

  6. The Royal College of Midwives During this period of industrial action we are asking RCM members to only agree to work overtime if it is agreed in advance that you will be paid for it. You should claim overtime from your employer using the normal local mechanism for doing so.

  7. The Royal College of Midwives As part of our campaigning work we want to keep a total of how many hours paid overtime you work during this period. We would like you to complete an RCM timesheet recording all time you work over your contracted hours. You should email the completed timesheet to paycampaign@rcm.org.uk.

  8. The Royal College of Midwives We are campaigning for: Payment of the 1% uplift for all staff, as recommended by the PRB; An above inflation pay rise for 2015-2016; and A commitment to future pay rises that restore the value of NHS pay.

  9. The Royal College of Midwives We believe that by taking action we can send a strong message that midwives and maternity support workers deserve fair pay. We believe investing in staff in an investment in better care – NHS staff deserve to be fairly rewarded for their hard work.

  10. The Royal College of Midwives Other things you can do: Send an RCM postcard to your local MP; Hand out RCM postcards to members of the public so they can show their support;

  11. The Royal College of Midwives Other things you can do: Send us your messages about pay and photos from the week of action on Twitter tagging @MidwivesRCM and using the hashtag #nhspay; Like and share our infographics and messages on Facebook and Twitter;

  12. The Royal College of Midwives Join us at the TUC march and rally in London. You can find out more information here: https://www.rcm.org.uk/content/rcm-events.
