One of the most challenging times to use the guidelines for healthy eating is when you eat snack foods.Snacking is not unhealthy. In fact, some experts even think that eating small meals and snacks instead of eating just 3 large meals a day is best.
The problem with snacking, however, can be with the foods we choose to eat.
Characteristics of a Healthy Snack • Low in added sugar • Low in salt • Low in fat • Fresh, not processed • Tasty • Smaller in size than a meal • Provides key nutrients

You are now going to complete Part 2. You and your partner will choose the snack from your lists that you like the most. You will create a 1-minute commercial to convince your classmates to eat that healthy snack on a regular basis.
HOMEWORK!!!! • When you go home tonight, think about the characteristics of a healthy snack. Try to choose a snack that fits 1 or more of the characteristics. Be prepared to discuss your snack selection during the next class.
