  2. Born in Cheshire, England Born on 20th October, 1891 He attended Manchester High School. He graduated from the Honors School of Physics in 1911.

  3. Worked two years under Professor Rutherford Gained his M.Sc. degree in 1913. He was awarded the 1851 Exhibition Scholarship Proceeded to Berlin to work in the national institute for natural and engineering sciences Rutherford

  4. After World War I he accepted the Wollaston Studentship. He resumed work under Rutherford Rutherford had recently succeeded in disintegrating atoms by bombarding nitrogen.

  5. He was…. Elected Fellow of Gonville and Caius College Assistant Director of Research in the Cavendish Laboratory Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society.

  6. In 1932, James Chadwick discovered a third type of subatomic particle, which he named the neutron

  7. Awards The Hughes Medal of the Royal Society in 1932 The Nobel Prize for Physics in 1935. Sir James was knighted in 1945

  8. More Awards/Metals He received the Copley Medal 1950 The Franklin Medal of the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia 1951. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Physics

  9. More Awards Many Honorary doctorate degrees from the Universities of Reading He is also a member of several foreign academies.

  10. James Chadwick initially wanted to study mathematics as an undergraduate, but got in the wrong registration line by mistake.
