Look around the room, what do you think is important to consider when you are in the lab? SAFETY
Worksheet • You will usually find a set of ‘Lab Rules’ in a science lab. They are there for your safety! • The drawing shows a lab where there are no safety rules. • Circle all of the things going wrong in this lab. • For each of your answers, write a safety rule.
3. Do not use any chemicals or other equipment until told to do so by your teacher
5. Always wear safety goggles when instructed to do so and never take them off until told
7. Tie long hair back, tuck ties and loose clothing in when using Bunsen burners
8. Report any spillages, broken equipment or fire to the teacher. Never attempt to deal with them yourself
9. Do not interfere with plug sockets and keep wet hands away from electrical equipment
10. Be polite and respectful to all other people in the class and think of their safety as well as your own

You will be producing a poster in 2 weeks time and it will be entered into a competition. • It will be judged by Mr Fitzgerald and Mr Egan • The top 3 posters will win a prize. • With the information you have, start to plan the poster • You can bring in any equipment to decorate the poster.
