PA Youth Survey Report Protective and Risk Factors Because risk is associated with negative behavioral outcomes, it is better to have lower risk factor scale scores, not higher. Conversely, because protective factors are associated with better behavioral outcomes, it is better to have higher protective factor scale scores, not lower. Students in State College Area School District reported a higher average level of protection than students in Pennsylvania statewide as a whole. * Strengths: Community Opportunities for Prosocial involvement, Belief in a Moral Order and School Opportunities for Prosocial involvement. Students in State College Area School District reported a lower average level of risk than students in Pennsylvania statewide as a whole. * Strengths: Early Initiation of Drug Use, Community Disorganization and Family History of Antisocial behavior.
