Scientific Name: Bucorvusabyssinicus • Found largely in open grasslands/savanna of Sub-Saharan Africa and Southern edge of Sahara Desert • Although desert inhabitants, never been recorded drinking water [in wild] • Remain monogamous when breeding [return to same nest site annually] • Life span is unknown

Communicationprocess by which we assign and convey meaning in an attempt to create shared understanding • Thought: First, information exists in the mind of the sender. This can be a concept, idea, information, or feelings. • Encoding: Next, a message is sent to a receiver in words or other symbols. • Decoding: lastly, the receiver translates the words or symbols into a concept or information that he or she can understand.
Two main types of communication: • Verbal: involves noises, vocal chords, words, language [conveying a message with words/sounds] • Nonverbal: involves body language, gesture, facial expression, eye contact, hairstyle, clothing, etc. [conveying a message without words/sounds]

The two Hornbills at Zoo Atlanta Their ‘perch’ [the female dominated this and always sat at the highest point] Their food is made with combinations of bird seed, Crisco, corn syrup and protein substitutes.
