DO CAPITALIZE • The first word of a sentence: My dog is not very smart. • The first word in every line of a traditional poem: It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, (Edgar Allen Poe, “Annabel Lee”) • A family word used as a name or in direct address: Susan saw the parade with Uncle Ed. • The name of a particular person, place, planet, event, brand, etc.: Professor Jones plans to take his geography class on a trip to the Grand Canyon.
