Back to School Night Welcome to College Prep Energy in the Environment. Mrs. Day E-mail : cday@wtps.org
EITE? College Preparatory class: Meets 6 periods = 6 credit class Develops good observational, analytical & reasoning skills.
Grading… • Tests/Exams – 35% • Quizzes – 20% • Lab Work – 25% • Classwork & Homework – 10% • Projects (one each marking period)– 10%
Late Work • No Late Work is Accepted. • If absent, work is due the next day student is in school (except for online submission of projects)
Grading • First marking period - lowest lab AND lowest quiz grade will be dropped.
Corrections • Quizzes and Tests • Learn from mistakes on quiz to get it right on test! • Earn partial credit for corrections • Required if grade is B or below
Tips for Success • Meet the deadlines for all assignments. • Hand in COMPLETED assignments (but partial credit is better than no credit) • Come for after school help as soon as a problem arises. DO NOT WAIT FOR IT TO GET WORSE. • Students need to keep up with their homework. • Even if nothing is ‘officially’ due the next day, I encourage studying notes, practicing skills learned in class, or working on their project.
Tips for Success • There will be a lab almost every week • There is 1 project per marking period • Participate in class. • Review the material covered in class on a regular basis. • Do not wait to study everything before a test/quiz. It can get overwhelming .
Building Independence • Have the students talk to their teachers directly • Students must self assess their learning and understanding • Help them come up with solutions if they are having trouble or did not do well on an assignment
Student Tutoring • By Science National Honor Society students • Response time within 2 days • Request help as soon as possible!
After School Help • Upon appointment most days • Don’t wait until right before test or quiz • Come with questions
