History of CSH in DTHR 1999 Pilot Project initiated through “Action for Health” Funding • 3 schools in 3 different school division • mix of rural and urban • mix of grade levels • facilitator support: 1 day/ week
SCHEP Program History of CSH in DTHR • 12 year partnership initiated between the Health Region and Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools • Joint funding between health and education • 18 schools involved • Health Champion in each school
CSH in DTHR The Current Picture • Partnerships with 9 School Divisions • 196 of 229 schools are included through the partnerships
Must have a Health Champion(s) in the school (sustainability) • School Administration and District support is essential • Staff, student, and parent engagement (whole school approach) leads to broad based change • CSH works! What Have We Learned? Critical Success Factors
