The Difference Engine • Charles Babbage was born in December of 1791 and died in October of 1871. • He invented a machine he called a difference engine which was the first computer. • He had nine children. • The machine was never completed because the parts were too hard to make. • He died in poverty and no one knew how valuable his invention would be.
