Request for a TeraHertz Interest Group Supporters David M. Britz (AT&T Research) Young‑Chai Ko (Korea University) Alexander Maltsev (Intel Corp.) Robert Miller (AT&T Research) Rick Roberts (Intel Corp.) Trevor Bird (CSIRO) Leo Razoumov (AT&T Research) Abbie Mathew (NewLans) Darwin Engwer (Nortel) Art Astrin (Astrin Radio) Irl Duling (Picometrix) Adam S. In contribution 15-07-0623-01 (February 2007), David Britz of AT&T Labs discussed the Terahertz spectrum band which covers 300 GHz to 10 THz. • Questions immediately arise … • What applications might use this? • What technology would address this? • What is the coverage range and possible bit rates? • What is the regulatory status? • When is this going to happen in the market? • Will there be a standards effort and when? • What is the current research status? • Who is doing the research? • etc. Rick Roberts, Intel
These are all good questions … and to start documenting issues and answers, we (the names on this contribution) are asking for the formation of an Interest Group. • IG Group Name: 802.15.THz_IG • IG Chair Volunteer: Rick Roberts (Intel) • Meeting Schedule: as required based upon contributions1 • IG life: indefinite (until SG status or interest dissipates) • Anticipated Migration to SG status: unknown • IG Output: Documents addressing “issues and answers” Note 1: The THz_IG can either meet as a sub-committee during the WNG session – or – request a dedicated IG session on the WG 802.15 schedule based upon IG workload. Rick Roberts, Intel
THz_IG Work Plan – Assuming Approval • Generate an Open Call for Contributions • Establish THz_IG reflector (via Rick Alfvin) • Manage Contribution Workload • Work with WG leadership for agenda time • Report on progress to WG Rick Roberts, Intel
