{3}GHA176 {1}Aries to DesiredMonth & Day.FEB 1 SUN {2}Mark Sun17S@GHA176 YACHTSMAN Instructions. {Numbers are places to go to on the diagram.} The SUN can be added to the STAR DISK without the Nautical Almanac. The new day starts with the SUN crossing the 180 degree Longitude (LONG.) at 24/00 on the outter rim. Some times the SUN is ahead or behind, a few known degrees, we also know the DECLINATION (DEC.) of the first day of each Month, we can interpolate close values on other days for both GHA & DEC.. VALUES DEC.& LONG. Jan S23-179Feb S17-176 Mar S8-177 Apr N5-179 May N15-181 May N15-181 Jun N22-180 Jul N23-179 Aug N18-178 Sep N8-180 Oct S3-182 Nov S14-184 Dec S22-183 Jan S23-179. Place the star Disk on to the Base Disk and point the pointer ARIES to the desired Month and Day {1} Place the TRANSFER ARM on the Star Disk. Move the pointer on the Transfer Arm to the above GHA on the rim for The interpolated GHA and DEC. For the Month and Day. Through the slot place a grease marker to mark the mock SUN, the above values will give a indication of how long to replace with a new sun. Example Feb 1 {2} DEC.S17 {3}GHA176 The Time difference caused by the sun not being at time 00 at midnight is called the “Equation of Time.”
June 01= 04:44{2} <slot Declination O mock sun <pointer Aries 15:20 v YACHTSMAN and Time of OCCURENCE {Numbers are places to go to on the Diagram.} The Yachtsman can duplicate celestial events in terms of Time, Altitude bearing, rise and set and any alignment for the purpose of planning, studying and education or just to see how your sky works. The time of occurrence of any event can be read off the device in two ways. {1.} Reading the time for the FIRST POINT of ARIES. Any time that the STAR DISK is used the pointer Vwill point at the outer rim{1} “GREENWICH MEAN TIME” (GMT) The corrected GMT ,Time of the event must be corrected by subtracting the TIME at the MONTH and DAY on the outer rim.{2} {2.} When the mock SUN is on the STAR DISK, a line from the center pin through the SUN on to the outer rim will give the correct GMT. Use the TTRANSFER ARM or any straight edge. {3}This works only with the SUN. Example Event. LAT 05N LONG 75W June 01=04:44 GMT rim 1. Aries at time 15:20 RIM -04:44=10:36 2.SUNRISE 10:36 RIM brg 075. Any situation of heavenly bodies can be duplicated And close to actual time of occurrence can be read off. {1}V 15:20 1. ^ 0 Long. {3}10:36 Your local library may have This year’s ALMANAC.
