  6. The diencephalon ("interbrain") is the region of the brain that derives from the prosencephalon (forebrain). The diencephalon is located near the midline of the brain, above the midbrain. The third ventricle is the cavity of the diencephalon Functions: The diencephalon is involved in several functions of the body including: - sensation - motor function control - homeostasis - hearing, vision, and taste - autonomic function control - endocrine function control .

Cerebral ventricles: • The cerebral ventricles consist of the lateral ventricles, third and • fourth ventricle. • The ventricles contain cerebrospinal fluid which is produced by • choroid plexus covered by specialized epithelium. • - The third ventricle is a narrow cavity located between the two sides of the • diencephalon. • The third ventricle is connected to the lateral ventricles via interventricular • foramen to the fourth ventricle via the cerebral aqueduct.
