How to Find Library Sources at CCC Using general Internet sources (i.e., doing a Google search) for your paper will earn you a failing grade Using library sources ensures valid, scholarly information from secondary sources. Here’s how to find great source material from the Camden County College Library.
To access the library databases, you will need a Camden County College library card (unless you are on campus). Apply for a card or renew here.
Once you have access to the databases (did you apply for or renew your card?) go to “Articles.”
Go to “News and Issues” (lit classes go to “literature”)
Then search one of the databases…try CQ Researcher or Points of View For Composition II Try Academic Search Premiere (aka EBSCO).
You can find many articles in Academic Search Premiere, but if you are looking for argumentative articles (for composition) try CQ Researcher or Points of View (under “News and Issues” section of databases):
Any database will work for your research, but you should check out several. Or, to do a large overall search, try Academic Search Premeire, which searches many databases at once. Here, you can try different search terms to see what results come up.DO NOT USE NEWSPAPERS AS THEY ARE PRIMARY, NOT SECONDARY SOURCES (i.e., no “periodicals”)
When in EBSCO (Academic Search Premiere)…Below is an example of a search for articles using “skin cancer” and “tanning” as search terms. Always modify your search for full-text articles and academic journals and years as well
If you are looking for literary criticism, try Bloom’s Literary Reference Online or Literary Reference Center.
Try other databases as well. • If you still have questions on research, try chatting live with a librarian (online) or go to the Library for assistance. The librarians are very helpful and will prove to be an invaluable resource to you in your research. • Or, Ask your instructor for help!
