The Spring 2013 Examination schedule is set with the following dates: Registration Window – Online January 14 – March 11 Examination Administration Window April 8 – May 18 Period for Scheduling Exam Appt. 4. Perianesthesia Nurse Awareness Week February 4-10 is a week of honor and respect for all perianesthesia nurses. Join more than 55,000 perianesthesia nurses whose vital role in patient care requires compassion, care and competence.

5. Certified Nurses Day – a National Celebration! March 19 is the day set aside to honor Certified Nurses! Go to our website and download a free poster in various sizes to use in your unit. 6. Photographs neededfor our CPAN/CAPA Luncheon at the ASPAN Conference in Chicago! ABPANC is requesting photos of CPAN/CAPA certified perianesthesia nurses doing what they do best – taking care of patients and families or working in their units.  This year we want more photos than ever – please participate with a group photo of your team. Email your photos in jpeg format to gloria@mediaii.combefore March 1, 2013.  A Photo Release form must be signed and returned for us to use your photos.  The Photo Release form can be easily found on the ABPANC website under the Resources tab > Forms.

7. Submit your nominations for the ABPANC Advocacy Award and Shining Star Award by February 18, 2013. • All nominations must be received via email no later than February 18, to be considered. Email your nomination applications for each award toabpanc@proexam.org and include the name of the award in the Subject Line. Read all about the awards and download the applications on the ABPANC website at www.cpancapa.org.

8. Shining Star Award • Applications for the Component Shining Star Award can be found on our website – www.cpancapa.org under Resources tab >“Awards.”  This prestigious award is not just given to one component, but rather to all that meet the criteria!  Be part of your group of peers who receive the award statuary at the annual CPAN®/CAPA® Celebration Luncheon held at the ASPAN National Conference.  For questions, contact Philip Godlewski at 800-622-7262, option 2 or email him at pgodlewski@proexam.org

9. Advocacy Award • This award recognizes a CPAN and/or CAPA certified nurse who exemplifies leadership as a patient advocate.  Read the stories of those who have received the Award in the past. Surely you know colleague in your unit or component that has done something extraordinary on behalf of a patient and/or family.  Take the time to submit a nomination today!  The nomination information is located on the ABPANC website under the Resources tab >“Awards.” You could win $100 for your nomination.

10. 2013 ASPAN National Conference Chicago – April 14 - 18 Annual Conference will be here before we know it and we’re looking forward to seeing you! Be sure to stop by our new ABPANC Exhibit Booth and see what we have for you. Also, register early for the CPAN/CAPA Celebration Luncheon to be held on Monday April 15 from 12:15-2:15 pm – seating is limited! 

11. Consider this lecture: “The Benefits and Value of Being CPAN® and CAPA® Certified: What Employers Can Do to Recognize and Support Certified Staff.” This presentation will focus on best practices employers use across the country to recognize and support certified nursing staff. In addition, research studies identifying the value placed on nursing certification will be discussed as well as strategies for effec­tively promoting the value of certification. One contact hour. 12. Recertification Information The recertification process is done completely online. Individuals due for recertification should read the Recertification Handbook (www.cpancapa.org > Recertification). Instructions will be provided in the first renewal notice, sent to certificants in December (for the Spring recertcycle) and July (for the Fall recertcycle). • Certificants can create a user account by visiting the ABPANC website and clicking the Create User Account link found on the Home Page under Recertification. • Certificants can track their contact hours in the new electronic filing cabinet, update their contact information, receive emails from ABPANC, and complete the recertification process. • Certificants can enter their contact hours as they earn them by visiting the ABPANC website and clicking the Continual Learning Log link found on the Recertification page.

14. MORE NEWS Great news! The Buy one Get One Free Practice Exam program has been extended until July, 2013! Online Practice Exams (www.cpancapa.org > Certification) are available for people studying for CPAN and/or CAPA certification. There are virtually an unlimited number of 50 question practice exams available to take. Get two practice exam for $35. Contact hours may also be earned.

New 12-week Study Plan is Available Online This comprehensive 12-week study plan was developed by our most experienced coaches and organizes subject matter into topics that can be reviewed in approximately four hours per week. This free guide is ideal for small groups or your own personal study plan. 16. GET INVOLVED Earn Free Contact Hours Interested in becoming a Certification Coach? We have all the support materials you need to lead a small group of certification candidates as you help them prepare for exam. Volunteer Coaches earn three contact hours a year for having coached at least one individual. Contact Zelda Williams for more details – zwilliams@proexam.org

17. Interested in becoming a Remote Item Writer? Learn how to write exam questions from home by attending an online webinar. Item Writers receive two contact hours for each submitted item and can earn up to 60 contact hours in a 3-year recertification period. Contact Vita Greco for more details – vgreco@proexam.org
