  2. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education Defines information literacy as an intellectual framework for identifying, finding, understanding, evaluating, and using information.

Association of College and Research Libraries The information literate student: • Determines information needs • Finds possible research sources • Evaluates the quality of the sources • Uses information purposefully • Using information for a specific purpose • Uses information legally and ethically

  4. The K-12 IL Connection: • The student who is information literate accesses information efficiently and effectively. • The student who is information literate evaluates information critically and competently. • The student who is information literate uses information accurately and creatively.

  6. Current IL Efforts at SJFC • First Year Program • Pilot areas for imbedded standards: nursing, education, sports studies • Upper division course library sessions, as requested • Individual student & faculty consults
