  2. Giuseppe Verdi ricevette nel 1870 un progetto di Camille Du Locle, tratto da una novella di Auguste Mariette, (1) insieme alla proposta di metterlo in musica per conto di Ismail Pascià, vicerè d'Egitto, nell'ambito dei sontuosi festeggiamenti indetti per l'apertura del Canale di Suez.
