What do plants eat?? • Plants make their own food!! • What do plants need to make food? • Plants need several things to make their own food. • 1. chlorophyll, a green pigment found in the leaves of plants
Light • carbon dioxide (CO2 ) ( natural air that we breath in)
4. Water (which the plant collects through its roots) • 5. nutrients and minerals (which the plant collects from the soil through its roots)
What plants drink?? • Plant drink water, water help plant to make food also help plant to grow. Plants absorb water through their roots, especially through the very fine root hairs near the tips of the roots. Water evaporates out through the stomata. This is called transpiration, and pulls water up from the roots and through the stems to the leaves using tubes called xylem.
What do plant breath? • Plants do breathe - they give out carbon dioxide and absorb oxygen from the air that surrounds them. Their tissues respire just as animal tissues do. Plants, however, do not have lungs or a blood stream, so we cannot say that they breathe in the same way as animals.
