The early years… When Aboriginal people first arrived on the shores over 50 000 years ago, Australia was a different place. These first settlers would have seen some of the changes that happened during this period : For example volcanoes erupting, Lake Eyre drying up, deserts forming, rainforests spreading, slices of mountains crashing into the valleys below, glaciers making lakes, and new harbours, bays and islands forming
The early years The might have also witnessed the disappearance of the giant marsupials such as the giant rat kangaroo, the marsupial lion, the blunt-faced koala, the giant emu, and snakes as thick as tree trunks.
