  2. What is ADD? • ADD is also known as Attention Deficit Disorder • ADD is physcological term linked to impulsivity, hyperactivity, and/or inattention • Although ADD is a classified as a disease, it is very subjective, not specific

  3. Types of ADD • There are two different types of ADD-ADD with hyperactivity, and ADD without hyperactivity.

  4. ADD with hyperactivity • Fidgety in a squirmy sense • Doesn’t stay steady • Runs o climbs excessivily • Difficult playing quietly • Often on the go • Excessive talking • Trouble waiting in line or taking turns • Interupts or intrudes on others

  5. Inattention • Does not pay close attention to detail • Hard time sustaining attention in tasks • Unorganized • Does not follow instructions • Trouble in school • Easily distracted • Looses things easily • Often forgets about daily activities

  6. How common is ADD? • Due to the fact that ADD is so subjective it is hard to place a specific number on how many people have ADD. • However, it is believed that somwhere between 3-5 percent of the population has ADD

  7. How do you diagnose ADD? • ADD should be diagnosed by a pyschologist or psychiatrist; avoid physicians for they will simply prescribe medication

  8. Causes of ADD • There is rarely ever a “pure” case of ADD, instead there are often contributing factors that lead to behavioral problems such as: Allergies, bypolar disorder, creativity or child abuse.
