  1. The element Silver Jasmijn de Hoog Bouthoorn

  2. Silver • The name of my element is Silver and the chemical symbol is Ag. • The atomic number is 47 and the atomic mass is 108. • It has 47 protons, 47 electrons and 61 neutrons. • Silver is a metal. • Artisans made jewelry and religious artifacts from silver. • Although no one knows exactly who first discovered silver, ancient Egyptians, Babylonians and Phoenicians all knew of this metal.

  3. 5 compounds silver is used for. • Silver azide, is used as an explosive. • Silver chloride, is a white crystalline solid well known for its low solubility in water. • Silver fulminate, is used as highly explosive silver salt of fulminic acid. • Silver oxide, is used to prepare other silver compounds. • Silver sulfide, is the black solid that forms over time on silverware and other silver objects.

  4. 5 compounds silver is used for. • Silver (1Ag)+ azide (1N3)= Silver azide (AgN3) • Silver (1Ag)+ chlorine (1Cl)= Silver chloride (AgCl) • Silver (1Ag)+ fulminate (1CNO)= Silver fulminate (AgCNO) • Silver (1Ag)+ Oxygen (2O)= Silver oxide (Ag2O) • Silver (1Ag)+ Sulfur (2S)= Silver sulfide(Ag2S)

  5. The use of Silver. • Silver is important because it has so many different uses. • For example coins, jewelry, dishes and numerous other things. Silver is also very important for photography. It is used for the light fall in the camera lens. • In the past, silver was used for jewelry, religious artifacts and food dishes.

  6. Silver as solid, liquid and gas. • If people make solid shapes of silver, it must be liquid first. • If silver is in the state of liquid, people pour the liquid silver into shaped containers to make it a nice solid shape. • The melting point of silver is 961.8 °C. • The boiling point of silver is 2,162 °C. It will then turn into a gas.

  7. The cost of silver. • The cost of silver depends on the number of grams, kilograms or ounces. • The price of Sterling Silver is $25.7 per ounce and $0.91 per gram. • Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and is. The other 7.5% is usually made of some other metal like copper.

  8. Where is silver located? • Mexico has been mining silver since 1546. • Other large miners of silver are China, Australia, Russia and Poland. • Nevada produces the most silver. Silver is also mined in Alaska, as well as the eastern parts of the United States.
