EDTC 6332Practicum in Educational Technology Final presentation Fall 2011Alfredo Davila
1. What is the terminal or ultimate goal of the project (within the timeframe of this course)? Tell the class what you planned to accomplish. • The objective of this course is to learn how to create a specific solution to a real problem. For this we should follow the suggestions defined on the Dick and Carey model and carry through the project in the real world. In my case: I developed a Family Hurricane Guide.
2. What have you accomplished in your course project? Describe it. • I did an analysis of potential problems that could be solved with a proper course of action in order to contribute to generate one option within the existing ones. • I defined the goals and objectives to be achieved in this course. • I reviewed the potential project structures that best fit my lesson as I was creating my project. • Finally as a family we practiced what was learned.
3. How does the end product differ from your initial plan? • My original plan changed from the dates I had planned to go forward as to the definition of goals and objectives. Also in the final drill, I contemplated a hurricane hitting a residential area of the United States rather than Mexico, where the type of housing construction is very different.
4. Tell the class about your rationale for the instructional design by using one of your lessons/modules/units as an example. • Lesson 1: Hurricane history, definitions and tracking maps. • I prepared 3 lessons for my Family hurricane plan: for example in lesson 1, defined 3 objectives to achieve. My idea was, that before explaining to students what to do when a hurricane approaches, it’s necessary to understand the importance of being prepared.First objective: Review about the history of the most dangerous hurricanes. Second: Review terms and definitions used by meteorologist to define the hurricanes, storms, etc. And third: The importance of how to use the tracking maps.Once we learned lesson 1, we are prepared to continue.
5. What lesson(s) have you learned from this course project? • There is a method of order to organize and plan a course for the solution of a problem (Dick and Carey Model is an example). • Throughout the project we should not lose sight of each goal and objective defined in the proposal. • To proof if the course is effective we need to initiate a drill.
