  2. Artistic Alignment Average image of keyboard by Antonio Torralba Average image of a pedestrian in Cambridge, MA by Antonio Torralba

  3. Average faces take 1 Jason Salavon http://www.salavon.com/ Makes artistic images by averaging

  4. Average faces take 2

  5. External set of slides on Warping & Morphing • From Bill Freeman and Frédo Durand • http://groups.csail.mit.edu/graphics/classes/CompPhoto06/html/lecturenotes/14_WarpMorph_6.pdf

  6. Assignment2 (Due Feb 20) • Demonstrate aligning and averaging faces • - collect face images (or other subject) • - mark some fiducial points by hand • - compute mean fiducial positions • - warp faces to align fiducials with the mean positions • - show the average of the warped faces • - find the correspondences automatically instead of using hand marked fiducials • - as an easy start, try just translation and scale for alignment

  7. More Reading • Read Chapter 4 from Szeliksi for next class. Also review chapter 3 if you need to. Here is the paper with “inspiration” about getting the signal processing: “Image processing done right.” by Koenderink & van Doorn 2002. • Steve Seitz & Chuck Dyer • Focuses on morphing between views of an object, many of the same ideas as we discussed in class, 1996 • http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~seitz/papers/sigg96.pdf • Try uploading an image to http://morphthing.com going through the alignment process (it will work almost automatically for clean face images, but will require more interaction for difficult faces).
