Overview • The Justice Video Network (JVN) is one the largest videoconferencing and converged communications network in an integrated justice environment • Ontario is considered a leader in this space among both public and private sector organizations • JVN was created in 1999 by the Ontario Justice Ministries as more than 180,000 inmates were regularly transported from correctional facilities to court • The use of videoconferencing provides for a more secure Ontario by minimizing the number of accused persons that are transported • Video was initially used for remands and bail, hence the initial name – the “video remand & bail project” • Today JVN has grown and is used for first appearance, bail, remand, education & training, remote testimony, telemedicine, legal aid, video remote interpretation
