If you snooze you lose..... By the end of junior year, students should have earned a total of 210 credits! Remember – Only one summer school opportunity may remain prior to graduation Pick the right classes when we do registration in Spring
Find Your Path… Learn about the world of work, identify and explore potentially satisfying occupations, and develop strategies to achieve your goals. • The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is available to all MV Juniors • The Test will be given on: • November 17th • Sign up during Junior Guidance Lessons or in the Guidance Center
College Planningin the Junior Year • www.Kudernavigator.com / www.collegeboard.com • Search / Virtual Tours / Research / Timelines • Learn about colleges. Visit college Web sites, talk to family, counselors, teachers, and friends • Understand the different college systems: Community Colleges, CSU’s, UC’s, Independents, and Vocational Schools • Attend College Presentations at MVHS • Attend College Fairs • Start a file to manage any informational materials you collect including testing results • Actually make college visits, if possible
College OptionsCalif. Community Colleges (CCC) • MSJC in Menifee, Palomar and Riverside City College are close to Murrieta • To go to the CCC you need to have a high school diploma or be 18 • Three paths available at CCC: • 1) Career training and education • 2) Transfer Education • 3) Earn A.A. or A.S. degree
Community College cont… • MSJC conducts many informational meetings for MV students • In the senior year, MSJC will conduct application workshops and assessment sessions right here on campus • Tip: seniors should continue taking rigorous classes to prepare for college level work at the Community College.

PSAT • Test Date – Saturday, October 15th • Cost - $23 • Registration: September 13th –October 8th(until sold out) • Tests critical reading, math and writing skills (no essay component) • Provides practice for SAT and personalized feedback on strengths and weaknesses • Juniors are eligible for the National Merit Scholarship (see PSAT student guide or website for more information) • Students get access to My College QuickStart
College Entrance Exams • SAT – Offered 7 times this school year. Register online at www.collegeboard.com/testing • Cost is $47.00 • Most students take during spring of their junior year. Many choose to take a second time in the fall of their senior year.
College Entrance Exams cont… • ACT – Offered 6 times during school year. Register online at www.actstudent.org • Cost is $48.00 for ACT Plus Writing and $33.00 for ACT (No Writing) • Schools will accept either the ACT or SAT. Often, students will take both.
SAT Subject Area Exams • Students applying to UC for admission in Fall 2012 are no longer required to take Subject Area Exams. However, some majors may still require them. • Some private colleges and majors may still require them…check to be sure.

COMMUNICATION • Website – www.murrieta.k12.ca.us/mvhs – Links to staff email addresses, progress report and community service forms, the Daily/Weekly Bulletin, news, events, and more… • Email – communicate with teachers, counselors, etc. Dialer – automated messages when your student is absent and upcoming events • ABI parent portal – ability to check grades online w/ most teachers • Please keep us updated with your phone/email/address info…. especially if you have not been receiving email communications
Parting Advice & Information • Junior year is critical for 4-year college admissions • Community Service – Keep working on it and turn it in! • Get involved in extra-curricular activities • Get help if you need it – Talk with teachers; form study groups • Parents – Check your student’s agenda and binder, and communicate with teachers – email works best with most teachers • Check your email!
