Status of Azimuthal Correlations studies V. Pozdnyakov, Yu. Vertogradova (JINR, Dubna) CONTENT: remarks on AC, UrQMD expectations input, variables for analysis, PSD centralities reaction plane resolution conclusion and remarks on simulated `experiment’
z Reaction plane y x remarks on AC centrality is correlated to impact parameter of a collision for Azimuthal Correlations task, centrality determination has to be then followed by Reaction Plane reconstruction AC are inside UrQMD, but RP is always in X-Z AC differ for different species nice for CBM with p/p separation - defines R, (direction of the impact parameter) dN/d(f-fRP) ~ S vn cos [ n (f – fRP) ] v1=<cos[f – fRP]> directed flow v2=<cos[2(f – fRP) ]> elliptic flow
UrQMD expectations (8-12), (4-8) , (0-4) fm 25 GeV 25 GeV 15 GeV 15 GeV
input, PSD, variables for analysis 20 kEvents of 25 GeV/n and 15 GeV/n UrQMD central production (APR08 release) are used and the same events are passed through the setup with 2 approaches of PSD located at 15 m from Interaction Point: a) piece of a plane of 60 cm in both X and Y directions. Simplified shape will allow to investigate resolution of Reaction Plane determination as a function of different PSD R- segmentations; b) 9(y)*12(x) PSD modules of 10cm*10cm each with one-module hole 12 R-phi cells 107 cells Analyzed variables are number of primary and secondary charged particles reconstructed in STS with momentum above 1 GeV and total energy deposited in Projectile Spectator Detector (PSD) with energy smearing 50% sqrt(Ecell)
centralities 25 GeV/n 15 GeV/n (0-10)% (10-20)%
reaction plane determination with PSD measured with or protons reaction plane via PSD vn,meas = vn <cos[n(EP – RP)]> event plane from MC ‘target’ event plane resolution 25 GeV/n 15 GeV/n impact parameter (8-10) fm
reaction plane determination with PSD impact parameter (8-10) fm 4 (space-consuming) kEvents UrQMD simulated with APR08 release analysis is done on a level of energy loss in PSD scintillators 4 'box' result is an upper limit since EP is directed in the best direction – through centres of modules solutions: rotate generated event (an author of UrQMD agreed with such a 'trick'), another generator (should be helpful to compare results)
conclusion the study of azimuthal correlations with CBM looks attractive criteria based on the multiplicity of high-momentum charged particles and the energy deposited in PSD allow to select evens within required impact parameter domain a dependence of EP resolution vs impact parameters has been calculated at 25 GeV/n for both 'R-f' and 'box' PSD geometries and at 15 GeV/n for the former all these are part of
