Timelines & Resources • 4 x 4 rostering has been in place in physiotherapy for 18 months • 2006/2007 estimated costs of the physiotherapy service to ED including weekend and public holiday cover = $111,138 • The cost of implementing the 4x4 service per annum employing a senior clinician and a grade 2 physiotherapist was $140,785 • Additional funding required was $29,647

  5. Productivity Increase in costs related to rostering changes = 27% Increase in number of patients treated = 89% Increase in hours delivered to ED = 104% Increase in occasions of service = 89% Recruitment and Retention Elimination of recruitment issues Improved staff satisfaction – life/work balance Key Outcomes Achieved

  6. Lessons Learnt • The model was so well accepted by Allied Health it has now been rolled out in Occupational Therapy • When planning rosters – • Allow for cross over between therapists i.e. OT have a cross over day where both ED OTs are on site. • Up skilling staff to cover leave is essential • Hours of service have been extended to provide Allied Health coverage until 8pm weekdays, and 7pm weekends
