Why was music so important to slaves? • Music played a important part in slaves life's because it expressed what they were feeling like unhappiness. • Also slaves would use music to communicate with each other only when it was long distances about escape plans and riots.
What type of instruments did slaves use ? • The most popular instruments played by slaves was the drums this was played with your ands, fingertips, palms or sticks. • Most slave owners did not allow slaves to use drums. They feared that the slaves would use the drums as a means of communication in order to plan rebellions. As a result, slaves had to learn how to play European instruments such as the fiddle.
How was being free as worse as being a slave? • When slaves were set free in 1865, they faced poverty and homelessness. The nightmare for slavery was over ,but black people were often denied jobs and mistreated in other ways .
How are the blues and the slavery connected ? • there's a direct tie. chants used in Africa came over to America with the slaves. these began to mix with gospel spirituals, and were also used as a way to communicate in the field without owners becoming suspicious. these became your "negro spirituals", which began to mutate into the blues with the abolishment of slavery. hence the 12 bar format of call and response which could be chanted back and forth in the fields, but makes for a powerful musical statement on its own.
People that got inspired the slaves music ? • People that got inspired by the slaves music where people such as Robert Johnston, Bessie Smith, John-Lee Hooker and Eric Clapton. • When we talk slaves music also know as the blues we think about how much emotion they put in to there song that why we still put the same emotion in to day .
