1. Child Safety Week 23rd – 29th June 2014 Awareness raising campaign to prevent the risks of child accidents In Gloucestershire we are raising awareness of the risks to children from; Blind cords, Nappy sacks, Co-Sleeping and Heavy Objects.

2. Window blind Safety - Make it safe! Internal window blind cords and chains are a risk to babies and small children who could injure or even strangle themselves on looped operation cords and chains.

Top Tips for Keeping Your Sleeping Baby Safe Do place your baby in the ‘feet to foot’ position Do place your baby in the ‘feet to foot’ position Do place your baby on their back to sleep Don’t let your baby get too hot or too cold Don’t share a bed with your baby if you have been drinking alcohol, take drugs or are a smoker Don’t sleep on a sofa or in an armchair with your baby Don’t cover your baby’s face or head while sleeping or use loose bedding Don’t smoke near your baby and keep them away from other people’s smoke For More Information refer to your Red Book

5. Falling Heavy Objects can kill! Children under 5 are most at risk from TVs and other heavy objects toppling over onto them. Nationally there have been 4 deaths in the UK from TVs since 2008, and 2 deaths from heavy objects here in Gloucestershire. All TVsshould be anchored to the wall, whether flat-screen or cathode ray tube. • Top Tips: • Always discourage your children from climbing on furniture. • Mount flat-screen TVs to the wall to prevent them from toppling off of stands. • Place large, heavy, old-style • cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs on • a low, stable piece of furniture. • Use brackets/braces/wall straps to secure your set.
