Indian Invasions • Ganges Khan led the Mongol army in the Battle of Bamian (or the Indus river battle) where they defeated India • The Mongols were up 40,000 to 30,000 soldiers. • The Indians were attacked and eventually lost half their men. • Gangas Kahn told his men to attack from the Indians weakest point which was to their left (where the mountains were.)
Indian Invasions • After that attack, Gangas Kahn decided he wanted control of Khorasan. • The next battle was in 1241 and there was not another with India until 1292. One more came in 1299. • From then on until 1308 Mongols didn’t do much attacking except one little raid n Delhi in 1329. • The Mongols had had enough childish raids! In the Tamberlane invasion in 1398 that the Mongols decided to try and take control of that region.

Invasion of Annam and Champa • Kublai Khan and both north and central Vietnam wanted control of certain spice trading routs. • In 1257 the Mongols planned an attack on Vietnam to get what they wanted. • In 1260 the Mongols attacked with half a million forces and still lost, they ran away back to China. • In 1288 the Mongols tried once again with 300,000 troops and lost again. • In 1288 400 Mongol vessels were captured so they accepted defeat and gave up.

Japan Invasions • Kubilai Khan tried to invade Japan many times. Once in 1274 and once more in 1281. • The Mongols lost both times, however to weather related reasons. • Finished destroying the Song dynasty in 1279. • In 1278 the Mongol and Chinese forces had 15,000 troops, almost twice the Japanese! • A storm blew in killing 13,000 Mongol and Chinese troops so they had to retreat. .
