Office of Science Policy • Advances EPA Science by Integrating ORD Research and Technology in Agency Decisions • Formulates ORD Recommendations for Use in Agency Regulations, Policies and Guidance • Tribal Science Council and Board of Scientific Counselors, FTTA, AA support • Regulatory Support Program • Regional Science Program – Links ORD Science with EPAs Regional Offices, States and local governments – building partnerships for effective transfer of research results on high priority issues

Regional Science Program • Regional Science Liaisons (RSLs) and Superfund and Technology Liaisons (STLs) • The RSLs are a team of 10 senior scientists, one in each of the ten Regional Offices. • The four core RSL activities are: • (1) communicate and transfer ORD science products to the Regional Offices • (2) manage the Regional Applied Research Effort (RARE), Regional Methods (RM), Regional Research Partnership Program (RRPP), and Regional Science Workshops • (3) support Regional Office participation in ORD research planning and Agency decision making.

  5. Superfund and Technical Liaisons (STLs) • ORD senior scientists and engineerslocated in the • ten EPA Regional Offices - focus on hazardous waste issues • Superfund and RCRA • Program was created jointly by ORD, OSWER and the Regional office • in 1990 and is managed by the Office of Science Policy • Coordinate technical support, including site-specific technical support, • through ORD’s Technical Support Centers/ Agency sources of expertise • - Superfund and RCRA Programs • Facilitate technology and information transfer from any relevant • and credible environmental resource through many venues including • conferences, technical workshops and publications

  6. Discussions with ORD Grant Program • Engaging the EPA Regions early and throughout the process • Enhance communication opportunities throughout life-cycle of grant • Encourage grantees to update interested Regional staff on progress • Consider cooperative agreements where appropriate • Consider additional vehicles for application of promising grant products
