Level 3 • States the obvious • Assumes the reader is… STUPID!
Typical Level 3 Joe runs with the football.
Level 4 • A complete sentence that tells the reader the following…
Who (the people) • What (the verb and what happened) • When (time and date) • Where (location) • Possibly Why and How(only if needed)
Typical Level 4 Who: Tailback Daryll Clift
Typical Level 4 What: Sprinting & gained 30 yards
Typical Level 4 When: 3rd quarter of Ashland game
Typical Level 4 Where: Up the middle of the field

Level 5 • Two complete sentences • The first sentence is a level four caption. • The second sentence tells the reader something that relates to the photo but that can not be found anywhere else on the double page spread. • Let’s try a few…
