2 Different Techniques There are 2 ways to complete this assignment… You get to pick!
Option #1 “Hollowing” • Wedge a large chunk of clay to remove all air bubbles. • Shape into a sphere or oval (depending of the shape of your pumpkin) • Use a loop tool to hollow out the inside of the sphere. • Shape and carve the outside of the sphere to make it into a 3D pumpkin. • Slip and score a base on the bottom to cover up the opening you made to hollow out your pumpkin. • Use TONS of texture on the stem, leaves, etc to make it look real. • Poke a small hole next to the stem to allow air to escape from the center of your pumpkin!
Option 2 “Armature” • Wedge a large chunk of clay to remove all air bubbles. • Create a ball out of newspaper (DO NOT TAPE IT). • Wrap the newspaper with slabs of clay and stick them together to make a 3D sphere with newspaper in the middle. • Shape and carve the outside of the sphere to make it into a 3D pumpkin. • Use TONS of texture on the stem, leaves, etc to make it look real. • Poke several small holes next to the stem or on the bottom to allow air to escape from the center of your pumpkin!
What do you call clay that is dried out just a little and is easy to sculpt?
What can you do to make it stronger after you have hollowed it out?
