  2. The STEAM Schedule STEAM Camp will be from 8:00-10:00a.m. If your team or class wishes to continue with their work the rest of the day on your design, that is up to you. We will be operating on the 2-Hour delay Related Arts Schedule. https://docs.google.com/document/d/14OSfr41ZtBwg2BTAq3bGjGy8mTjWInoAoHo6Q55IW90/edit?usp=sharing Please use the 2-Hour delay Lunch Schedule. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cHDNV8KdwMgVtsZSAGa-FJDHvai68mbjgeLKSuCIogs/edit?usp=sharing Please use the 2-Hour delay Recess Schedule.https://docs.google.com/document/d/1h_JQ3ZP99HVbTiCnGUVUcsf2tpnD4iDKArip4jm0euE/edit?usp=sharing

  4. Overarching Design Challenge Question Could the students at Moore re-design the outdoor area behind/beside/or around the building to be used by students for multiple functions, involve community supporters in the re-development of the space, and secure funding to make the space possible?

  5. The Design Challenge Video You can show this video to the students to show them how this project can be done. For Inspiration...

  6. The Design Thinking Challenge Process Follow the Steps on Your Design Thinking Challenge Poster: Research Apply Create Present Reflect

  7. How to Decide Which Lesson Each Pride will need for all four lessons to be done. Inside each lesson are several jobs: • Project designers • Grant writers • Prototype Builders • Presentation Designers • Presenters You can divide up your class into four or five groups to get the job done, just like a real life workforce.

  8. Lesson Plans Lesson #1 Personal Fitness Lesson #2 Environmental Design/Farm/Garden…. Lesson #3 Team Sports Lesson #4 Performance Areas

  9. Lesson #1 Personal Fitness Design Challenge Question Can the Moore Students design a space where the students can improve their personal fitness, find a way to fund the materials needed to build this area, and design a way to organize how the classes will use this area?

  10. Lesson # 2 Environmental/Farm/Garden Design Challenge Question Can the Moore Students design a space where the students can grow plants and raise animals using environmental guidelines and scientific methods to provide food and flowers to the school, find a way to fund the materials needed to build this area, and design a way to organize how the classes will use this area?

  11. Lesson #3 Team Sports Design Challenge Question Can the Moore Students design a space where the students can participate in team sports practice and games, find a way to fund the materials needed to build this area, and design a way to organize how the classes will use this area?

  12. Lesson #4 Performance Areas Design Challenge Question Can the Moore Students design a space where the students can hold outdoor performances in drama, music, dance, or art: and have personal spaces for classroom learning, reading or reflecting, find a way to fund the materials needed to build this area, and design a way to organize how the classes will use this area?

  13. Daily Lesson Guide Day One The students will… • Answer the Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How questions they find in the design challenge. • Interview “experts” about the 5 W's and How questions. • Do research on the needs of the project. • Get feedback: I Like, I Wish, and I Wonder statements on sticky notes. • Draw out their sketches of how the area will look and may visit the outdoor space to collect data need for decision making.

  14. Brainstormin’ Student can use any form of brainstorming they wish: • Mind Map • VennDiagram • Outline • Bubble map • Focus Wheel • Horizontal Flow Chart • Bucket List

  15. Design Responses Remember to use…. I Like…. describe why and how your like this aspect of the design I Wish… describe what you wish to see more of or different about the design I Wonder or What if …Questioning if you were to add or subtract something to the design would it make it better?

  16. Daily Lesson Guide Day Two The students will… • Build the 3-D prototype model of the space they are designing • Write the grant proposals for the justification of the project • Put all this design work on their Pride’s presentation board and their 3-D model of the space. • Prepare the presentation of the prototype

  17. Daily Lesson Guide Day Three The students will… • Put their presentations in the gym with a designated team to present the prototype to the other classes. • Classes will go to the gym on a schedule to view the STEAM camp work and hear the presentation. • Classes will vote on the prototypes using a prepared voting sheet.

  18. Reference Sheets Design Institute Team Teachers have prepared informational sheets to help you guide your students without telling them “how to do” the project. It is important to let them discover the process for themselves. These reference sheets will be in the Google STEAM folder/classroom. If the group struggles a little, let them. It is their project.

  19. Materials If you want to add to the supplies from your closet of materials, feel free to do so. • Each Team will get a tri-fold presentation board to display their team’s design. • Each Class will get 2 - 11” x 14” sized foam core boards for the 3-D displays. • Each Class will get a bag of building materials: popsicle sticks, tape, foil, markers, modeling clay, etc. • Each Class will get tracing paper and construction paper in a variety of colors. You may want graph paper too. • If you want “trash” items to help you build, I have a container full of wipe boxes, water bottles, etc.

  20. Awards Students will vote on Best….. Categories • Best Overall Design • Most Inventive Use of the Space • Best Single Feature • Most Likely To Be Built • Kid’s Favorite Space • Best Written Grant • Best Presentation Board • Best Prototype Presentation • Best Oral Presentation • Best Environmentally Friendly Design

  21. Oh . . . and One More Thing…... Make sure that you are the facilitator, not the teacher. A Facilitator is... “A person that makes an action or process easy or easier. "a true educator acts as a facilitator of learning" T

  22. Imagination This is not a lesson to be taught. This is an experience for the students on “How to Be A Designer” LET THEIR IMAGINATIONS RUN ON FULL SPEED
