The Background……. Given the re-building efforts that are taking place in the country today, Cargills Ceylon Ltd (Cargills) have come forward with the concept of “The ONE Trust”. • The ONE Trust which has been conceptualized by Cargills is a project to contribute to the Nation re-building effort through a long term sustainable project. • The project will be launched by Cargills and will be sustained through the help and support of partners who will join the project at various stages. • The project will be managed by a team of individual professionals led by Cargills, along with a team of professionals who share the same objectives and principles. • The project will be overseen by a Group of Trustees and independent auditors.
The ONE Trust To help in the re-building efforts by • Providing necessary educational and other facilities and guidance to the children of Sri Lanka through • better values and positive thinking about the future
Project DetailsImplementation • The educational project will be managed by a partnership between an affected school and a partnering school in an unaffected area. • These partnering schools will follow the concept of “ADOPTING” a school in the affected areas. • The main focus of the project will be Primary education where ever possible since these kids are the most vulnerable. Role of ONE Trust • The ONE Trust will do the matching of schools for partnerships • The ONE Trust will fund facilities for the schools as well as pay and take care of costs of all the volunteers for working on the project.
Project DetailsImplementation Role of the Partnering Schools • The partner school will do day-to-day management of the project. • The partner schools will also contribute in terms of funding for the project. • The partner school will also help in finding teachers/ counselors and other volunteers & syllabi, text books etc • The partner school will also help immediately in setting up temporary shelters if needed for the children of these affected schools so that they are properly provided for until such time that the permanent new buildings are constructed.
Project DetailsTime Plan • Stage 1: To set up temporary centres that will substitute as educational and/ or counseling centers until the actual schools are re-build. Time period: starting February to continue as long as needed, until all schools are re-built. Approx. upto 1 yr. • Stage 2: To facilitate the re-building of schools in terms of - Providing facilities, equipment to improve standards & finding teachers etc. - Conduct Special Programs on value building which will include the parents. - Training teachers etc., Time period: as long as necessary depending on fund availability.
Project Details Geographical Focus • Will select areas in 1-3 districts where the need is most. Likely districts: Galle, Hambantota, Mullativu and Ampara. • Select at least 10 schools in total from the above districts or any other districts as per the need.
Finance and Legal Issues • The project will be under the supervision of a Group of Trustees. • The project will be managed by a group of professionals from Cargills, partner organizations and individuals. • Proper fund management resources and auditors will be utilized to manage the finances. • The project will be implemented with the consent of the education ministry. • For the purpose of project management a representative of The ONE Trust will be appointed to each of the management committees within the schools to monitor.
Funding - Grants • Select at least 10 schools in total with an estimate spend of Rs.4-5 million per school. (no. can be increased depending on the funds raised). • Initial seed capital to set up project expected from Cargills/ CT group. • The trust need to raise further funding of Rs. 50 million to complete the project. • Other funding: • Overseas Partners of Cargills Ceylon
Manpower • Initially volunteers from Cargills • Volunteers from partner organisations • Volunteers from the partner schools in Western Province and NGO’s

Dharmmarama Kanishta Vidyalaya (750 – 950 students). Adopted by Musaeus College Colombo • The school which is located in Ahangama in the Galle District, is a Primary school that offers education from Grade 1 to Grade 5. • The current school premises which has been almost 100% destroyed, fall within the 300m demarcated area from the sea and hence there is no possibility of re-building at the same site. • The ONE TRUST team has already put up 2 sheds which could accommodate 350-400 children for conducting classes. • In addition to this, we have provided the school with the necessary books and other stationery items needed to start academic work. • Total Contribution Rs. 1.5M
The Diayalagoda Maha Vidyalaya (started in 1864 as the “English School”) was one of the schools affected by the TsunamiAdopted by St. Joesephs College Colombo 10 • Situated in Beruwela • Building in close proximity to the main road- completely destroyed • Replacements needed for Steel Furniture, Cupboards, Video equipment, Lab equipment • Contribution from ONE Trust Rs. 2M • Total extent of the damage Rs. 10.75m
Madampe MV Ambalangoda Adopted by Ladies College Colombo 7 • The school has one of the largest School playground areas in the district Total number of pupils 1000No. Of girls approximately 400: No. Of boys aprox.600Staff Teaching staff 47, Minor staff 5 = Total 51 Tsunami and Consequences • (a)11 Teachers and 2 minor staff in and around the school area have lost houses, furniture and property (b)Other teachers around – Dodanduwa and Seenigama have been severely affected. • School buildings assessed (a)No doors or windows (b)No desks or tables (c) All books have been destroyed • (a)Computers (20 new) and 1 old) all destroyed as is the entire computer room. (b)Parapet wall that forms the front boundary of the school destroyed (c) 121 the majority of the children’s homes would have been destroyed • (a)2 sets of parents have been killed. School reopened on 10th January 2005, Only 10 pupils attended.09.(a)Sports facility destroyed (b)Home science facility destroyed (c) Library destroyed (d) Music and dancing facility destroyed • Contribution from ONE Trust Rs. 2.75M
Maha Vishnu Vidyalaya. Sri Mamanga Vidyalaya. Ramakrishnamission Maha Vidyalaya. Kalmunai Adopted by Methodist College Colombo • Total number of Children 756 • Maha Vishnu Vidyalaya and Sri Mamanga Vidyalaya completely destroyed and majority of the children affected • Ramakrishna Maha Vidayalaya is not damaged, however a large amount of students are affected. • ONE Trust contribution is Rs. 1.8M
Day Out for Children from Kalmunai • The ONE Trust organized a one days’ outing for the children of Maruthamunai Kalmunai. • These children were severely affected by the tsunami
