ObjectiveEnergy is transferred to living things through the food they eat.Student knows examples of living things that are: producers, consumers, carnivores, herbivores, & omnivores. • GLE: Students explain how plants &animals interact. • Students understand how animals depend on plants for survival (food, shelter and oxygen).

  3. Vocabulary • producer • consumer • herbivore • carnivore • omnivore • prey • predator • food chain • food web

  4. Producer • A living thing that makes its own food • Mostly green plants • Connection (like produce section of the grocery store)

  5. Consumer • Living things that eat food • Examples of consumers are sharks, tigers, and people.

  6. Three Types of Consumers • Herbivore: plant eater • Carnivore: meat eater • Omnivore: eats all things

  7. Prey • Any animal that is hunted by others as food.

  8. Predator • A consumer that hunts other animals as food.

  9. Food Chain • The movement of energy from one type of living thing to another.

  10. Food Web • The flow of energy between food chains which ties a community together. meat fish Man plants birds
