  3. Introduction: Our world is changing and not for all the good reasons so we need to find out why and how we can stop it or change it and this book will help you answer this. This book is based on sustainability and all the topics about this subject. We are going to explore why do we need to be sustainable and the different ideas about this subject such as what it is?, what we consume?, and what strategies can we use to be more sustainable. ENJOY!!!!!! 

  4. What is it? • The action of being sustainable is to use or consume something in an appropriate amount. This means take no more than you need so resources can be maintained and continue to be used for the future by people and creatures. This is someone consuming an apple, which is a type of resource which people need to take in to live.

  5. Why is it important? To ensure future generation has the same resources we have today so they are able to live the same lifestyle as we are today. Less pollution from transport, cars and factories. Humans need resources such as food and water to survive.

  6. MILK CYCLE: HOW DOES MILK GET TO US?

  7. Eat grass, hay, grains and drink water. Milk stored in a refrigerator tank. Milk is tested to make sure it is healthy. Milk is packaged. Milk is tested again to kill germs.

  8. How we use and consume in our society? We use and consume: • Food example (meat, grains, fruit, vegetables etc. • Electricity: it is used for computers, TV and so on to make it work.

  9. Continued • fossil fuel: it is used to produce gas/coal to make our cars work. • Minerals: such as we use gold to make jewellery Oil Gold

  10. What can we do? • Here are three simple ways to make your household more sustainable. SOLAR PANELS RECYCLE Change the way we get around WATER TANKS

  11. Recycling: Question: What is recycling? Answer: It means taking materials from old, used products to make new products. This is the recycling sign.

  12. Make sure you put it in a the recycling bin because……… If you drink water from a bottle and it is finished and empty….. The plastic bottle is recycled and reused to produce new products. As well as reducing resources being used and……..

  13. Things we CAN and CANNOT recycle:

  14. What are plastic codes? • We have plastic codes, to tell people what type of plastic it is and how safe it is, so the person know, if it can be recycled or not. • The plastic codes are found on the bottom of the plastic product. This is what a plastic code looks like.

  15. Plastics that can be recycled are numbered from 1 to 7.

  16. Water tanks: Instead of using clean water to perform certain tasks use rainwater. Clean water Water tanks capture rain water

  17. Growing crops Rain water enters tank Toilet water What is it used for Garden Washing car Washing clothes Washing animals

  18. Solar panels: • Solar panels is a product that absorbs light from the sun to create electricity and heat.

  19. Changes to Light energy Electricity or heat
