  1. cdma2000 3GPP2 All IP Network Reference Model Chung Liu +1 630-713-4770 czliu@lucent.com Lynne Sinclair +1 630-713-7327 lsinclair@lucent.com (Refer to other contribution for detail assumption and description of network reference model with functional and interface description)

  2. cdma2000 All IP Reference Model (3GPP2) Legacy mobile Applications & signaling Services Network Q: Should MGW directly from PDSN or M-IP HA ? Yes. Q: Should CSCF directly from PSDN or M-IP HA ? Yes. Q: Should use more generic name different from 3GIP and 3GPP ? Q: Support simple IP ? 3. New 3GPP2 All IP Network Elements • Call State Control Function (CSCF) or Feature Server • Call control related functionality: Call set-up/termination and control etc. • Mobility Management related functionality:Registration/VLR, serving FS location etc. • Home Subscriber Server (HSS) • Contains HLR, AAA and UMS (User Mobility Server) • Transport Signalling Gateway Function (T-SWG) • Roaming Signalling Gateway Function (R-SGW) • Media Gateway Control Function (MGCF) • Media Gateway Function (MGW) • Multimedia Resource Function (MRF) • Anchor and Serving Packet Data Service Node (A-PDSN & S-PDSN)

  4. cdma2000 All IP Reference Model (3GPP2) with Detail RAN & HSS Legacy mobile Applications & signaling Services Network SCP Multimedia CSCF IP Networks R-SGW Mh Mw HSS Ms Mm Mi Mp AAA UMS HLR CSCF RAN C Mr Mg Pi MRF Mx A1 WMS Pi BSC Mx MGCF T-SGW Mi PCF BTS M-IP TE MT PDSN M-IP HA SDU Mc Mi A8 (traffic)& A9 (signal) BS A3 A10 (traffic)& A11 (signal) or R-P R Um Mi PSTN/ MGW Legacy/External Signalling Interface Signalling and Data Transfer Interface

  5. Major 3GPP2 New & Enhanced Functionality • cdma2000 Radio Interface • QoS control and negotiation • Radio Spectrum Efficiency Improvement (e.g. Overhead elimination) • Impact TE/MT, BTS, BSC and Um interfaces • Radio Access Network • QoS control on SDU and existing A interfaces: A3 & A8-11 • Wireless Packet Data Network • New IP Network Elements: HSS, CSCF, MRF, MGCF, TSGW, MGW & R-SGW (see other slide) • Application level interaction with TE/MT • Enhanced PDSN (e.g. QoS and Compression with TE/MT) • End to end Network Architecture and Scenarios • Need standard group to address end to end all IP issues

  6. 3GPP2 Mobility Considerations (1) • Feature Server Location and Ownership • Visiting Network and Service Provider • Similar to existing wireless network (call control in visiting network) • Home Network and Service Provider • Call control in central location and special local feature server (e.g. E911) in visiting system • Might not need VLR • Other Network and Service Provider (e.g. Third party) • Feature Server Discovery procedure • Try to be transparent from underlayed protocol & procedure and discover FS anywhere • PSTN to Wireless Call Termination (Call Setup) • All circuit approach (Existing ANSI41 approach: Circuit PSTN-Home-Visiting) - Reuse PSTN, ISUP and ANSI41 • Partially packet approach (Circuit: PSTN-Home & Packet: Home-Visiting) - Reuse PSTN routing in originating network and use packet between home and visiting network (See next slide) • All packet approach (all packet between originating and visiting network) - PSTN GW in originating network with dedicated DN or IP address

  7. 3GPP2 All IP Reference Roaming Scenario Applications & Legacy mobile Legacy mobile Services signaling signaling Network SCP Network Multimedia Serving Network Home Network R-SGW IP Networks R-SGW Mh HSS Ms Mp Mm Mw V-CSCF H-CSCF Mi C Mr Mg Pi Mx MRF Mx MGCF T-SGW Mi M-IP TE MT RAN PDSN M-IP HA Mc Mi Mi R Um A PSTN/ MGW Legacy/External Enhanced Alternatives: 1. MGCF, T-SGW and MGW could be in visiting network with PDSN 2. M-IP HA could be in serving network with MGW, IP network & PSTN 3. MRF could be in serving network with PDSN (depending capacity) 4. V-CSCF could be part of H-CSCF if Home Feature Server support basic call and supplemental features 5. Dynamic HA capability in visiting network to reduce transport cost. Signalling Interface Signalling and Data Transfer Interface

  8. 3GPP2 Mobility Considerations (2) • Traffic Termination Enhancements • Route the traffic directly from originating to visiting network • Avoid IP traffic backhaul to home network always • Have regulatory issues ?? • Home Agent is closer to or in visiting network • PSTN Gateway in visiting network • Handoff Mobility Enhancement (Active call) • Desirable to assign HA by visiting netork • 2G and 3G Roaming and handoff Requirement? • All IP and All IP, 2G CS and 3G, 2G IP and All IP • 2G Inter-working via R-SGW
