3GPP2 Mobility Considerations (1) • Feature Server Location and Ownership • Visiting Network and Service Provider • Similar to existing wireless network (call control in visiting network) • Home Network and Service Provider • Call control in central location and special local CSCF (e.g. E911) in visiting system • Service Profile Data (SPD) is only in Home Network (even retrieve SPD from HSS during session instead of registration) • Other Network and Service Provider (e.g. Third party) • Feature Server Discovery procedure • Try to be transparent from underlayed protocol & procedure and discover FS anywhere • PSTN to Wireless Call Termination (Call Setup) • All circuit approach (Existing ANSI41 approach: Circuit PSTN-Home-Visiting) - Reuse PSTN, ISUP and ANSI41 • Partially packet approach (Circuit: PSTN-Home & Packet: Home-Visiting) - Reuse PSTN routing in originating network and use packet between home and visiting network (See the following slide) • All packet approach (all packet between originating and visiting network) - PSTN GW in originating network with dedicated DN or IP address
3GPP2 Mobility Considerations (2) • Traffic Termination Enhancements • Route the traffic directly from originating to visiting network • Avoid IP traffic backhaul to home network always • Have regulatory issues ?? • Home Agent is dynamically assigned by visiting netork • PSTN Gateway in visiting network • 2G and 3G Roaming and handoff Requirement? • All IP and All IP, 2G CS and 3G, 2G IP and All IP • 2G Inter-working via R-SGW

Private Network Gateway (PNGW) • Approach 1: • CSCF translates addresses for signaling • PNGW translates addresses for bearers • Approach 2: • CSCF resolves addresses • PNGW translates addresses for connection control and for bearers
Address Translation Functions • Translate user identifier found in H.225 messages into a local (private) IPv4 address • Peek at the setup CALLED NUMBER or the USER -USER information elements (IE) and stores the CALL REFERENCE VALUE (CRV) • Subsequent H.225 messages are translate using the CRV since the CALLED NUMBER and USER2USER IE’s are not present • Translate H.245 addresses found in CONNECT • Translate TSAP of bearer to private IPv4 address • HSS • Translate E.164 or NAI to a CSCF/PNGW TSAP • Accessed by CSCFs in other networks
