Technology within the College • All Departments • Harold Hay Media Resource Center (scanners and computers) - Web Server (G3 running OSX); File Server (G3-145 GB) • Application Server (Citrix); Key Server (Mac) • Architecture • Collaborative Interactive Design Studio Lab (CIDS) with a mix of Macs, PCs, and Unix machines many of which are 4+ years old. • 5 studio labs – each with 2 computers. • iJAM Laboratory – ITS/Arch open access lab with Macs. Refreshed in the fall of 2000 by ITS. • Software used: web development, graphics, video editing, multimedia development, AutoCAD, office applications. • Architectural Engineering • 3 computer labs with approximately 30 Dell computers total (Pentium III 933 MHz, 10Gb refreshed 3/01+ 2 dual processor servers), scanner, plotter. • Software used: structural analysis programs, discipline specific software, Matlab, AutoCAD, e-mail, web browsing, and office applications.

Technology within the College (cont’d.) • Landscape Architecture • GIST Lab – 1 G4-OSX server, 3 Dells, 2 Sun Ultra 5s, 14 G4 Macs, and 6 iMacs. • Software: Vectorworks, Citrix (ArcView, ArcInfo, AutoCAD), iMovie, Canvas, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Office. • Construction Management • 16 Dell computers – refreshed in 2000. • Web cam and videoconferencing equipment. • Software used: discipline-specific software, office applications, e-mail, web browsing, and AutoCAD. • City and Regional Planning • 18 Dell computers – each year 4 machines are refreshed. • Software used: AutoCAD, multimedia development, GIS, and office applications.

  8. 2001/02 College Requirements Decentralized Support (ITS contact for each college): • Provide technical support. • Provide instructional support. • Become familiar with college goals, needs, and current technology usage. • Advise on equipment purchases. • Provide strategic planning support. • Provide linkage to ITS policies and resources.

  9. 2001/02 College Requirements(cont’d) • Provide a pool of trained students. • Provide additional training and incentives to faculty for effectively using technology in education. • Help with lab refresh. • Enable large-format printing and scanning by students and faculty. • Provide additional file and e-mail storage space. • Provide additional bandwidth. • Allow more autonomy.

  10. 2001/02 College Requirements(cont’d) • Expand wireless coverage. • Expand use of (and support of) Citrix. • Provide support for GIS across the campus. • Provide support for ‘other’ operating systems (e.g., OSX, Linux). • Provide support for video-streaming. • Develop a policy to support student ownership of computers. • Expand keyserving.
