Marriott at Key Center – downtown Cleveland, OH Attendance: ~160 registered(vs ~200 in ‘08, ~180 in ‘07) 4th year of project nomination process - projects were nominated as priority “A”, “B” or “C” – FUW prioritization focused on projects that received at least one “A” nomination Opportunity was given for additional projects to be discussed as “A” nominations (if they were missed during nomination process in August) FUW 2009 Summary

Projects discussed: entomology ~70, weed science ~65, pathology ~120 (2008 total was ~320); “A” priorities assigned: entomology 17, weed science 18, pathology 20 (21) Numerous projects were given “A” nominations for efficacy/crop safety only; each discipline discussed these and gave high priority (“P”) for 4 or 5 projects Each discipline held general discussion sessions prior to starting priority setting, following company presentations (now available on website) 22 projects were not nominated for the third year in a row = workshop drops; in 2 years we’ve “moth-balled” >140 projects! From ~17 respondents: - the 2-day format worked well again and the new nomination process/database continue to be great improvements and make prioritization very efficient - good to have EPA there to provide updates and answer questions - discipline discussion sessions need a better focus, more relevant to help in the project prioritization process; limit the length of these, or possibly eliminate them to allow more time for discussions during the prioritization process - consider requiring a minimum amount of efficacy and use pattern information before approving an “A” priority FUW 2009 Summary (cont’d)

Starting 9/23/09 RFC began entering field trial assignments in theTentative/Scheduled Studies list through the new database (in other years, we’ve completed this process during the second morning of the face-to-face NRPM); LRD had the same capability, but began their entries the week of Oct. 19 10/6/09 Deadline for receipt of Priority Upgrade Proposals (PUPs) and expected Regional Upgrade projects; distribution of materials to RFC, HQ, AAFC 10/13/09 Conf. call among RFC, AAFC, HQ discipline managers and supervisors; reviewed FUW “A” priorities, “Red A’s”, “Int’l Red A’s”; discussed/approved Regional upgrade and PUP projects; determined other residue projects to move onto the 2010 field research plans (before, we’ve completed this process during the first morning of the face-to-face NRPM); decided next steps in determining efficacy/crop safety trials to conduct in 2010 2009 NRPM Process & 10/29/09 Meeting

Thursday October 29 8:00 a.m. – noon RFC/HQ Discipline Managers & SD/Lab Research Directors/AAFC, etc. – will finalize field and lab sites for 2010 food use research plan 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. review of 2009 food use project nomination/FUW/NRPM processes; efficacy/crop safety research plans 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. RFC to discuss ornamentals projects and 2010 research plans/budgets with C.
