Team Goals Our team chose to work with the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank to facilitate the 1st Annual Charity Basketball Tournament to support the organizations mission. Our team goals included: • Raise community awareness. • Solicit volunteers for the Food Bank. • Raise food and donations. • Create a community event that will be continued annually. • Have fun! About our Client(cont’d) The Fredericksburg Area Food Bank was incorporated in 1982 as the Fredericksburg Area Food Relief Clearinghouse. In the spring of 1995, the organization changed its name to the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank and became a certified affiliate member of Feeding America. Their mission is to aid member agencies in satisfying the needs of the hungry in the surrounding communities. Their warehouse contains 8,000 cubic feet of freezer and cooler space. They distribute more than 2.5 million pounds of food and grocery products every year to more than 90 food pantries and other food assistance organizations. Implementation Tasks to complete in order to pull this event off in 8 weeks: • Pick a date • Coordinate a facility • Find teams • Find referees • Find volunteers • Obtain trophies for winning teams • Obtain items to donate in raffle • Advertise! Date & Facility We wanted to give ourselves as much time as possible to coordinate our event so collectively we chose the week before our final presentation to hold the 1st Annual Charity Basketball Tournament to support the Food Bank on April 18, 2009. Facility Coordination- Our group successfully secured a venue at St. Michael High School located in Fredericksburg. St. Michael was willing to work with us as is and accommodated all our needs. Teams and Referees Referees: Charles Gold and Parker Norman. Finding teams became a continual group effort. We were successful in securing the following community volunteers: Teams: Marines vs Spotsylvania Sheriffs Office FBI Extras vs PWC 911 Dispatchers MVP vs Swords of Chivalry LRSP 435 Leadership Innovation & Creativity
Trophies & Raffle MVP trophies donated 6 trophies for us to give to the winning teams. Raffle We decided to provide a raffle at the event so that any proceeds collected could go to the food bank. We sold single tickets for $1 or gave the option of six tickets for $5. LRSP 435 Leadership Innovation & Creativity

Donated Items used in Raffle Powell’s kids toddler table and chair set. $25 dollar gift card from Wal-Mart Salon quality products and coupons from HairCuttery T-shirts, key chains, bags and toy’s from GEICO Gift cards and coupons from Noodles&Company Gift card from Panera Bread National Guard basketballs, backpack, and accessories $20 Edible Arrangements gift card BB&T key chains, pencils, magnets etc. LRSP 435 Leadership Innovation & Creativity
The Event Highlights: • Dr. D sang the national anthem • All six teams arrived ready to play! • We had 2 outstanding referees officiating • Each team was able to take home a trophy • Several kids and adults participated in the free throw contest LRSP 435 Leadership Innovation & Creativity

Actual Impact • Over 400 pounds of food were donated • One person signed up to volunteer at the Food Bank! • About 50 people attended the event • Raised over $240 from the raffle proceeds and cash donations LRSP 435 Leadership Innovation & Creativity
