The 113th Congress • With your pod, discuss questions 1-4 on page 11. • 5 minutes • #2: List 2 groups who might have reason to question how well Congress represents their needs/wants. • #3: What differences exist between Congress and the general American public? • #4: How important is it to elect someone of the same statistical profile as the majority in the district in order to gain good representation?

  3. Quick Review • What are the two “houses” in the U.S. Legislature? • How long does a Representative serve? A Senator? • How many members are in the House? The Senate? • What is an implied power? • Who is the Speaker of the House? The President of the Senate?

The Wisconsin Legislature • The Wisconsin Constitution divides the Wisconsin government into three branches • Legislative – Makes laws • Executive – Enforces laws • Judicial – Interprets laws • The Wisconsin Legislature is bicameral, meaning it has 2 houses • Upper House = Senate (33 Senators) • Lower House = Assembly (99 Assemblymen)
