1. Not Proper Knowledge on Goal Before starting any class, every teacher should have proper idea of the “Goal of Montessori education”. Ask yourself why you are here. What you’ll teach? What they will learn. You should always focus on long term goal for your students.
2. Not Having Clear Concept Most of the teachers don’t have clear concept on teaching or subject. You should understand what you’ll going to teach and how to present them. Before going to class clear all doubts and make yourself ready for the class.
3. Not Maintain Classroom Management Schedule While you have clear concept of teaching learning program, you should focus on classroom management schedule. Make a daily schedule for your classroom with new & innovative ideas. Keep in mind; don’t miss any part of teaching in a single class.
4. Using Same Lesson Plan for All Level It sound bit odd. But it happens in classroom by most of the teachers especially new teachers. As a Montessori teacher, never use the same lesson plan for all level. As per leaning objectives lesson plan need to be changed.
5. Not Understand Child Need Each student has very unique and separate needs. As a teacher, don’t think all students are same. As per their learning capabilities and needs you should have to change Montessori teaching method and plan.
6. Focus on Completing Book Some teachers focus on completing book and finish syllabus. But in Montessori education, main goal is learning. Anyhow children can finish their book or lesson. But teachers should confirm about their clear conception. For completing lesson teachers make their lesson too long and kids are not able to take the pressure.
8. Being Friends with Your Students This is one of the most commons mistakes that teachers commit in their attempt to be friendly with the students. Most of the times, inexperienced teachers fall into this trap especially those who want their children to like them.
9. Taking Discipline Casually Being too flexible on the discipline might land you into some trouble and make students up cross lines with you. Teachers are recommended to start tough because it is easier to get a little relaxed in the middle, but it would be difficult for you to maintain discipline, if you have already shown them your lenient side.
10. Organizing Properly By setting up a proper organization, you might avoid all the paper work that end piled up on your desk. You must maintain labeled files, folders and cubbies for avoiding all the paper to cover your desk. But this has to be done from the day one and not at the end of the school year. Avoiding these mistakes can be really helpful for your teaching career and make your students to learn better.
